Город Горький около 1972 год The city of Gorky about 1972 Gorky, now known as Nizhny Novgorod is a great city on the River Volga. During the Soviet years, the city was renamed Gorky, after the Soviet writer, Maxim Gorky who was born in the city. For much of the Soviet period, the city was closed to foreigners. With the end off the Soviet years, the city once again became known as Nizhny Novgorod.
