Explore the rich tradition of Kyrgyz cashmere farming and our 15-year journey to empower local farmers. Following the Soviet Union's dissolution in 1991, Kyrgyz goat farmers sold their cashmere at low prices to foreign traders. In 2009, native Kyrgyz goats were found to produce high-quality commercial cashmere, leading to our project's inception. We aim to: - Enhance cashmere goat quality and value by providing breeding stock. - Offer animal husbandry and pasture management guidance. - Connect farmers with international cashmere buyers. Our work in southern Kyrgyzstan has shown the potential of sustainably produced Kyrgyz cashmere to meet global demand while benefiting local communities.
