Описание: I worked as a volunteer for the Cascade Crest 100 the weekend of 27-28 August 2016. This is the only photo from a great weekend, I was packing gear down from the Thorp aid station, which was at Mile 86 of the race. You can see we had some nice views, that is Mount Stuart in the background. More of the Story My friend Jeff asked me if I'd like to be a volunteer at the Kachess Lake Aid Station (Mile 69) for the 2016 Cascade Crest 100. I headed over to the race headquarters in Easton, Washington fire station from my house near Seattle about noon on Saturday. On the way, I saw my friends Roger and Linda, they were off to volunteer at the Keechelus Lake Aid station (mile 60). I helped them load a few supplies and bid them goodbye. We picked up supplies for our aid station from the Easton fire station at 3 PM and transporting them to the site Jeff already had staked out along the (dusty) road next to Kachess Lake. I was truly impressed by the logistics of the race. We set up the aid station, one area I worked quite a bit was the runner's drop bags (supplies they had set up in advance to have when they reach the aid station). After setup, we did a short hike along the course, setting up a skeleton decoration and hanging some glow sticks. The first runner arrived at our aid station at 8:37 PM. After that, we had runners arriving sporadically through the night, more than 120 runners in all. We had chairs set up, hot food and would fetch what they needed, including drop bags. These runners are all remarkable; they exhibit tenacity - a don't quit attitude that I admire. In between, I got to know some of my fellow volunteers (Norma, Bob, Lindsay, Mark, Karl, Megan, Felicia, Wes) . Jeff had provided an interesting music mix and Christmas lights, it was an all-night party. Bob provided communications via amateur radio and Wes was able to text runner status. It is important to know when each runner enters and leaves an aid station. The cutoff for the last runner was 8 AM and after that we closed up shop and tore down the aid station, bringing the gear back to Easton and offloading at the fire station. I took at nap for about an hour and then met up with Daniel, another volunteer. We had signed up to help haul supplies out of the remote aid station at Thorp. It was a great two mile hike up to Thorp Aid station (mile 87 of the race). We met with Sharon and her team and had time to take a hike up to Thorp Peak. Had some great views of Mount Rainier, Cascades - including Mount Daniel. This is a hike I'd like to repeat. After our hike, we packed supplies down to Know Creek trailhead. I then dropped Daniel in Easton, where runners where still crossing the finish line at 33 hours into the race. From there, I headed home, it was a long few days but a lot of fun with a great group of people. IMG_20160828_152556
