Îïèñàíèå: During World War I, Portuguese personnel were due to form the Portuguese Expeditionary Corps to fight on the Western Front. When this didn’t materialise, they joined existing French units instead and are represented here by this replica SPAD VII which carries different individual markings on each side. The starboard side is painted as ‘S5732’ and named “MITA”. Although I have been unable to find exact details of this colour scheme, I believe it is likely to be the aeroplane flown by either Ant'onio de Souza-Maya or Jos'e dos Santos-Leite, who were both Portuguese pilots with Escadrille SPA.124.
