Îïèñàíèå: Originally produced by Radioplane who became part of Northrop in 1952, the Shelduck is a piston-engined target drone of which over 73,000 were produced. A variety of designations have been given to the same basic design. The original Radioplane designation was RP-71, the US Army called it the OQ-19 whilst the US Navy named it the KD2R Quail. When the US military standardised its designations these became the MQM-33 and MQM-36 Shelduck respectively. The SD-1 Observer was a battlefield reconnaissance variant, later re-designated as the MQM-57 Falconer. In British service they were known simply as the Shelduck D.1. The designation BTT, for Basic Training Target, became popular for the type in the 1980’s as a general description of the entire series. I have used KD2R-5 as my heading for this example as that is how it is labelled by the museum. With over 76,000 built, the BTT series is believed to be the most produced aircraft type in history.
