Îïèñàíèå: With over 173,000 produced, the Twin Wasp is the most produced aero-engine in history. A fourteen-cylinder twin-row radial, it was mainly used in the C-47 Skytrain / DC-3 Dakota, B-24 Liberator, PBY Catalina and F4F Wildcat as well as the British Sunderland and Wellington. This example is a 1,200hp R-1830-S3C4-G from B-24J Liberator 42-50668. The aircraft, coded 6X-M, was operated by the 854th Bombardment Squadron, part of the 491th Bombardment Group based at RAF North Pickenham in Norfolk. It crashed on high ground near Burnley on 19th February 1945, whilst on a flight to Burtonwood near Warrington. The crew were: - Pilot: - 1st Lt. Charles A. Goeking. Injured Co-pilot: - 1st Lt. George H. Smith Jr. Died of Injuries Flight engineer: - T. Sgt. Howard E. Denham Jr. Died of Injuries Radio operator: - T. Sgt. Leslie E. Johnson. Injured Navigator: - 1st Lt. Frank E. Bock. Died of Injuries Six military passengers were also on board. They were: - Sgt. Robert E. Hyett. Injured 2nd Lt. Joseph B. Walker III. Killed F/O David A. Robinson Jr. Killed F/O Gerald Procita. Killed 2nd Lt. Elmer R. Brater. Killed Sgt. Randolph R. Mohlenrich Jr. Killed Whilst some remains are still present at the crash site, this engine has been recovered and is now on display.
