Îïèñàíèå: c/n CBAF.IX4640 Originally built in 1945 with a 'low-back' fuselage, this Spit is known to have flown with 604 (RAF Auxiliary) Squadron based at RAF Hendon, No.3 Civilian Anti-Aircraft Co-operation Unit (3CAACU) based at Exeter and the Fighter Command Control and Reporting School at Middle Wallop. Retired and allocated the maintenance serial 7245M in December 1954, she became the gate guard at RAF Church Fenton before being moved to RAF Leconfield in 1959. Used for taxiing scenes in the 1968 ‘Battle of Britain’ movie, she was then restored and pole-mounted as the new gate guard at RAF Uxbridge. Sold off in 1988, she was rebuilt to fly in the 1990's by Historic Flying and later passed to the USA where it was involved in a fatal accident in June 1998. Returned to the UK and rebuilt again, this time with a 'high-back' fuselage, it flew again in 2013 and was first painted in the markings of RAF 322(Dutch) Squadron. It has since been repainted to represent Mk.IX ‘MH656’ as operated by the American 309th Fighter Squadron whilst based in Italy during the winter of 1944. In this scheme it is now operated by The Suffolk Spitfire Ltd and based at Duxford. Seen on static display at the 2022 Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire, UK 16th July 2022
