ôîòî: Lochnagar Crater. La Boisselle, France. 13-7-2022

Îïèñàíèå: This crater, some 70ft deep and 330ft wide, was created by a 27 ton mine placed beneath the German front lines by tunnelling companies of the Royal Engineers. It was exploded at 7.28am on 1st July 1916, two minutes before the start of the main attack on what would become the first day of the Battle of the Somme. The explosion sent debris almost a mile into the air, as related by Cecil Lewis in his book “Sagittarius Rising”. To give some kind of scale, my son James can be seen at the top of the crater to the left side. La Boisselle, Somme, France 13th July 2022
