Îïèñàíèå: c/n 686 This is the 2-seater variant of the cross-channel Bl'eriot XI. It was mass-produced for both civil and military use, largely as a trainer. This original example was flown by famous French aviator and flight instructor Adolphe P'egoud. Using a strengthened Bl'eriot XI-2 he flew the world’s second ever loop in a on 21st September 1913, although it is unclear if this is the actual machine involved. The world’s first loop had been flown near Kyiv nine days earlier by Russian Army pilot Pyotr Nesterov using a Nieuport IV. P'egoud volunteered for military duty at the beginning of World War 1 and would become the world’s first flying ‘Ace’ by shooting down five enemy aircraft. Sadly, he was shot down and killed on 31st August 1915. Appropriately, his Bl'eriot is now on display in the Pioneers Hall. Mus'ee de l'air et de l'espace.
