In December 2014, the Kyrgyzstan Ministry of Culture announced that a fifth-century Hunnic gold collar recently sold by Sotheby’s had been taken from the country illegally. On December 3, the “Umutkor collar” sold for $380,215. Woven gold necklace set with glass and garnets. Previously unrecorded fifth century gold royal collar set with garnets and glass is from the time of Atilla, emperator (Great King) of the Hun Empire. This magnificent collar would have been worn only by those of the highest social status. The Huns introduced dragon- and beast-head-terminal necklaces and torcs. Huns were master goldsmiths – as their forfathers, the scythians. The royal seat of Atilla imperator - considered by Hungarians as the founder of Hungary - was in Buda (today Budapest) at the time.
