Описание: Above is an illustration in the public domain from Wikimedia. It was first published on 2 February 1861. It shows the clocktower and frontage of Kings Cross Station on the right. The foreground shows the early "cut and cover" method of building tunnels for the first London Underground (subway) lines. Streets and buildings have been demolished along the route and a wide trench dug. A sub-surface tunnel was built and the ground was covered over.
