Описание: Description of the photo Model exhibited in the Museum of London. Visit on 1 December 2018 with my wife Zena and our neice Lee. Explanatory note below the model. "People coped with rising water levels by building wooden trackways across the marshy valley floor. Here a small party are imagined crossing an expanse of fen by means of a cradle-supported track of alder brushwood." (The model is based on evidence excavated in 1992 at Beckton, East London). I first saw this model on a visit to the Museum of London several years ago. At the time I wondered if it was possible for school students, for example, to build such a trackway using the same principles and similar materials. Or whether this has been done and tested to see what happens, and how long it lasted. Where I and my family live in London is close to the River Lee. (also spelled Lea). This is one of the many tributary streams and small rivers in the Thames Valley. For centuries It was prone to flooding until canalised. ____________________________________ Links § Please click the blue link here to view or download different size versions of the photo. § Link to Wikipedia page about fens.
