фото: River Thames Southbank Path

Описание: 11 August 2018. Continuing our slow stroll across Southwark Bridge, the curve of the Thames and the camera's foreshortening minimise the distance between Shakespeare's Globe theatre replica, the Tate Modern art gallery and the Millennium Footbridge. Also bringing nearer the height, shape and bloat of One Blackfriars. Making this glass monstrosity seem even more out-of-place and out-of-scale than it is. Needless to say, its supporters, salespeople and cheerleaders take a different view. For them it is more likely to be: "... an awe-inspiring sculpture looking down on the River Thames, the 170-metre high tower with 274 apartments is ideally placed to embrace London's rich cultural life on the South Bank. With sweeping views across the city and built to a unique design by award-winning SimpsonHaugh Architects, "One Blackfriars is set to be a beacon of architectural brilliance. The building has been expertly created for its residents to enjoy the very best that London has to offer". — (Source: their website) If that near-poetry is not awe-inspiring enough, there's more. Lots more. Again on their website. "ONE BLACKFRIARS IS A STRIKING, SCULPTURAL ADDITION TO LONDON'S HORIZON" "The building will offer buyers a truly luxurious lifestyle with spacious interiors and the very best views across the River Thames including the Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral, the London Eye and further." "The interiors have been designed by leading London-based design practice Tara Bernerd & Partners. Taking inspiration from the cultural life of the Southbank, the apartments are inspired by three eminent British artists: Thomas Gainsborough, the 18th century portrait and landscape painter; JMW Turner, revered for his Romantic and Impressionist landscapes and the 20th century Modernist sculptor Barbara Hepworth." In what way are the interiors inspired? Judge for yourself by viewing sumptuous videos (available on YouTube). These take you inside a show apartment to admire the "high-end" interiors of the Hepworth Collection And for this "iconic", "shimmering", "beacon", the equally stylish interior fittings of The Turner Collection. But don't expect those videos to show you any evidence of human presence. Nothing so ordinary as: dust; rumpled cushions; dishes in the sink; or children's toys under the sofa. Not even a copy of "Five Get On the Property Ladder" on the bookshelf. A dulcet toned voice-over in another video asks: "Can you see a different side of London? Can you see life from 500 feet?". But this different London turns out to be the same down-below city you can see for free when walking. Or view cheaply from a London bus. Or enjoy for a few pounds more from a riverboat. _______________________________________ § The video voice-over doesn't ask if: "Wiv a ladder an' some glasses you could see to 'Ackney Marshes if it wasn't for the 'ouses in between".
