фото: Down Lane Park playground gates

Описание: Originally these were the gates of Down Lane Central School. It was demolished and the school moved to a building in Parkhurst Road, a few streets further north. The land was added to the Down Lane Recreation Ground, later simply Down Lane Park. A much larger area of the park than the school area was lost when the Lea Valley Technopark was built. The Technopark building was later land-grabbed by the National Government as the site of one of its semi-privatised academies. The local history website Tottenham-Summerhill Road has a photo of Down Lane Central School in 1956. It also has a photo of some children from Down Lane Junior School in the early 1960s after the school had moved to Parkhurst Road. From time to time I'm contacted by people who once lived in Tottenham and come across my Flickr pages. I often recommend they take a look at the Summerhill Road website which covers a far wider area within Tottenham than the name suggests.
