фото: Two Spires

Описание: 15 February 2018. Photo from outside 212 Borough High Street SE1. At the crossroads ahead is the spire of the Church of St George the Martyr. It's the third church built on this site. The first was a Norman Church; the present one was rebuilt in 1734 - 1736. § Aerial view with Google Maps. Some 570 metres north-east of the church, near the River Thames and London Bridge, is "the Shard" - currently London's tallest building. In my photo the sun sparkles on its "spire", reflected by the bright February sunshine. There's a Flickr group called: "I can see the Shard from here". Which has recently had very few additions; perhaps because there aren't many places above ground in central London where the Shard is not visible. A huge overbearing tower of wealth. _________________________________________ § Guardian article by Rupert Neate 5 July 2017. High living, low sales: Shard apartments still empty, five years on". "Luxury flats with a price tag of up to lb50m were touted as an easy sell – yet have failed to shift as the London market slows § Comments & Views about the Shard. I've given some links which include a radio interview with the architect Renzo Piano. Also an article by the journalist Robert Booth in December 2011: "London's Shard: a 'tower of power and riches' looking down on poverty". [Links checked OK 17 February 2018]
