Описание: 7 September 2017. In Park Lane, Northumberland Park Tottenham. What's this about? The sign was temporarily tied to the handrail outside St Paul's Church, Park Lane. Local residents and campaigners were meeting to share updated information about the London Borough of Haringey's so-called "Haringey Development Vehicle" (HDV). This is a detailed, extensive plan to demolish large swathes of publicly-owned housing. To displace and replace residents. In the opinion of Haringey Council's current political leaders this is "regeneration". An alternative viewpoint, held by many Haringey residents, elected local councillors, and campaigners is that the plan will lead to "Social Cleansing". Haringey's plan is one of many similar right-wing initiatives across London and elsewhere in the UK. However the scale of Haringey's plan is far greater. And unusual in that the HDV plan includes publicly-owned land with residential housing, at least two schools, commercial property, and some privately owned homes. Currently (September 2017) Haringey's plan is probably the largest such scheme in the UK. It's also potentially the most risky. The risk is financial and - crucially - social. Residents' homes, lives, jobs and futures are jeopardized. Established communities would be displaced. Nor is my selection objective or balanced. I and my wife Zena Brabazon were strongly opposed to the HDV since it was first proposed. As an elected local councillor Zena has been a member of the Scrutiny Panel taking evidence and making sharp criticisms of the proposal. § Article by Ed Vulliamy: Apartheid London: social cleansing ruined the minestrone streets I grew up in. 17 June 2017. § YouTube Video: Grenfell Tower & 'social cleansing' Review of Anna Minton's book.
