Описание: The largest and most controversial issue facing the London Borough of Haringey is the so-called Haringey Development Vehicle - the HDV. David Lammy is the Member of Parliament for Tottenham. He has represented and advocated for Tottenham since his election in 2000, following the death of Bernie Grant another highly respected MP. In my view, David Lammy's letter to Ciaire Kober is a very welcome intervention in this controversy. It is very unusual for a Labour Member of the UK Parliament to publicly criticise a Labour councillor who is the Leader of the elected local council. Working together with his colleague Catherine West, member of Parliament for Hornsey Wood Green (the Western part of Haringey borough) both MPs have tried without success to persuade Cllr Claire Kober of the risks and dangers of the HDV. On 3 July Cllr Kober took the next step to drive through this policy at a so-called "cabinet" meeting of Haringey Council. I took part in the march and demonstration against the HDV and posted photos of the event. My wife Zena Brabazon, is a Haringey Labour councillor. She was in the Council Chamber of the Civic Centre as one of the many local residents, tenants groups, activists, concerned Christians, local councillors, and a wide range of others, questioning and challenging the scheme. They were, of course, ignored. ______________________________________ § The Guardian's brilliant journalist Aditya Chakrabortty accurately makes the link between the Grenfell Tower tragedy in Kensington and the plans for Tottenham. His Twitter account includes the statement: "I am gainfully employed by a newspaper. Future generations will not be able to say that." There has to be a way to alter that prediction in line with Clay Shirky's comment that "Society doesn't need newspapers. What we need is journalism".
