Описание: Suppose instead of an estate agent's sign, that the artist Andy Warhol once stayed in Tottenham. That here in Devon Close he removed the estate agent's sign and substituted his own artistic rendering of an old-fashioned Brillo box. Transgressive art pretending to be real art? Substituting for the trangressive estate agent's sign? This photo is my fake of course. Or so I tell you. But not entirely fake since the yellow pole, plastic ties and setting were all real. And what if I faked a duplicate Warhol with a real copy of an old Brillo box? Would it become real art? Or would a genuine Andy Warhol Brillo sign replacing a genuine estate agent's signboard, become genuine street art? Would the unlawfully fastening to the streetname sign become artistic licence? Perhaps the whole idea is deliciously trangressive and creates an artistic frisson? Or is it just absurd twaddle? I'm sure nobody is surprised or disappointed to learn that this faked up photo is not a real old-fashioned Brillo box, copied as art by Andy Warhol. Even if does look a bit like the one you've been saving up for at a future art auction when you mingle with the fantastically super-rich. Cause they've got the style it takes, and money is all that it takes. ______________________________________ § Thanks to Liz Ixer for introducing me to the song.
