Описание: My own photo of the one in Aldeburgh Museum was marred by reflection from inside the room. (Please scroll down for another photo from Wikipedia almost certainly taken at the same time.) After we visited the Museum, I wanted to find out a little more about Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. I knew that she was an early woman doctor and I also knew of the Hospital for Women in London which she co-founded. (Later renamed after her, and now part of University College Hospital.) And especially because of the Save the EGA campaign in the late 1970s. I didn't know that, although born in London, she came from a Suffolk Family who returned there when she was five. And that after her professional career she retired to Aldeburgh and became its mayor. There was a lot more I didn't know including the unsurprising fact that she was a suffragette. Also that one of her portraits was used on a UK postage stamp. ______________________________ § Wikipedia page: Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. § Portrait painted in 1900. § Wikipedia page: Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Obstetric Hospital. § Archived page about Elizabeth Garrett Anderson - BBC website. § Webpage from Lost hospitals of London.
