Описание: Another photo from our brief Aldeburgh visit on 2 September 2016. Group portraits painted about 1855 by Thomas Thurlow. Displayed in Aldeburgh Museum. Below the painting, an explanation with names of the men portrayed. With their nicknames, too. Which perhaps suggests careful research by local history enthusiasts. In my photo, some words are partially obscured by the reflection of sunlight through the mullioned window panes: ". . . this group of heads depicts Aldeburgh men, most of whom were members of the two rival Beach companies based in the North and South look-outs on Aldeburgh beach. Known as the Uptowners and Downtowners, they vied . . . etc". § No worthy women as well? Of course there were. § Wikipedia page about Thomas Thurlow. § Visiting Aldeburgh? The Museum has restricted opening hours, so check its website and phone them to confirm. The website also has news of the Aldeburgh Museum Redevelopment Project. § A virtual stroll past Aldeburgh Moot Hall on Google Street View. § Link to a photosphere by R.G. Rankine from the beach nearby.
