Описание: On 7 December 2015 a page on Haringey Council website described a plan to convert these disused public toilets in Rawlinson Terrace, Tottenham. Funds were earmarked to convert it into: "a new cafe or bar in a bid to bring the elegant unused Victorian building back into use." The artist's impression on Haringey's website (please scroll down) might be described in many ways: pastoral, bucolic, rustic, bosky or perhaps arcadian. It shows a spotless perfect roadway, and rubbish-free pavements. There are trees and flower boxes. But no cars and no carparks. Not a trace of any motorised vehicles can be seen. Not even a horse-drawn hay wain intrudes. (Or any other wain, come to that.) Transport in this Ruritanian idyll is Shank's pony. Plus a single unicycle with someone juggling traditional clubs. Another figure in a long green coat pushes a baby buggy festooned with balloons. We can guess that around the brightly painted tables each coffee drinker's i-Phone stands at ten to three; with endless honey still for tea, But that's in the parallel universe inhabited by our local Council. Or perhaps with a virtual reality headset where, with noise-cancelling headphones, piglets tweet like nightingales in the nearby trees. Meanwhile, what do we actually see, and what do we get? A convenient brick wall for passers-by and their weary companions to park their behinds for a while - refreshing themselves with warm canned beer. Perhaps singing some madrigals before leaving the empties in the thoughtfully provided brick litter tray. ______________________________ § Google Streetview July 2008. § Google aerial view (undated). Note that the roadway to the east of the former toilets is shown by Google as 'High Street'. Though the Street nameplate is 'Rawlinson Terrace'.
