What currently passes for "leadership" of Haringey Council - specifically the dire elected politicians now running the Borough - appear to be broadly supportive of this foolish and potentially dangerous proposal. To be fair, the attraction for them is the same for Haringey as many other local cities and towns and counties across the country: Cash. For several years elected local councils have suffered massive and unnecessary budget cuts. They've been encouraged to turn to private corporations to fund budget deficits. Incuding realising assets such as sales and long leases of publicly-owned land and buildings. Haringey's current bunch of elected politicians seem as keen as the last lot to please their property developer pals. As a bonus, I assume any spare cash from commercialising public land and services may come in handy when subsidising their own local civic vanity projects. These critical views are my own. Not everyone sees the leading figures among our local elected councillors as contemptible.
