Описание: Walking though Kings Cross Station western concourse I noticed that Nigel Gresley now has a proper plaque behind his sculpture. It has the same wording as the paper in a plastic envelope which was stuck on the wall on 7 April 2016. _________________________________ § Short video on YouTube of the statue unveiled on 5 April 2016. It includes some enthusiastic comments by the sculptor Hazel Reeves. § Read the plaque more easily with a larger size photo. § Two more photos from 7 April. § The plaque says Gresley's engines were "the first truly high speed trains". Although it seems some people find the "romance" of steam more appealing than the environmental benefits of high speed rail as an alternative to polluting air travel. § "Greasy smoke coils lazily around the cab, giving everyone a smoker's rasp. The Flying Scotsman is incontinent with oil, grease and water, you are soon covered in the same and perspiring hot, and that sheen attracts coal dust like a cloud of grey mosquitoes. It's in your hair, pores and clothes; even your pockets smell of 4472; it's almost as if it is trying to turn you into a piece of edible coal." Quote from a Telegraph article by Andrew English, 24 August 2017. The Flying Scotsman review: should we have stuck with steam?" § Wikipedia page about High-speed Rail, including in the UK, Japan, mainland Europe and elsewhere.
