Описание: "You have not observed. And yet you have seen". The fictional detective Sherlock Holmes scolds Dr John H. Watson in the story 'A Scandal in Bohemia'. What supposedly important observation has Dr Watson, neglected to make? It is that there are seventeen steps leading up from the hall of 221B Baker Street to the rooms occupied by Holmes. 'A Scandal in Bohemia' was the first of 56 Holmes short stories written by Arthur Conan Doyle. In the first paragraph we learn about Holmes that: "All emotions [ . . . ] were abhorrent to his cold, precise but admirably balanced mind. He was, I take it, the most perfect reasoning and observing machine that the world has seen . . ." Observation without emotion? To me that's fairly useless if we want to understand the usage and abuse of alleyways. _____________________________________________ § Link to location on Google Maps. § The Report "Alley Links" published by Clear Village describes the work carried out by this regeneration agency working with local residents.
