фото: Five Go on a Great Western Adventure

Описание: Advertising campaign for Great Western Railway (GWR). They invite us to enter an imaginary nostalgic past where Enid Blyton's story characters reappear - apparently in a time warp - wearing clothes from the middle decades of the last century. It was an era, despite freezing bedrooms and cold damp English winters, children continued to go to school with bare knees. This billboard advertisement pictures the bank of an idyllic rural stream. Timmy a highly intelligent, ultra-loyal dog belonging to George (Georgina) shakes his wet fur on Dick, Anne, George and Julian. (He's the one in a sleeveless Fair Isle pullover.) Above, a modern high-speed intercity train crosses a brick and stone bridge with a balustrade and decorative stone balls. Which, at least to me, seems unlikely, and probably dangerous. In my photo the building underneath the billboard is the roof of 451-453 High Road, Tottenham, the former "N17 Studio" in Forster Road, Tottenham. It was occupied for a while by the nearly as famous John McAslan + Partners (JMP). The departure of JMP from Tottenham left Haringey Council with an empty shop with rent to pay, and the tail-end of a lease. Plus an empty space - a concrete yard at the rear - now used mainly for litter and dumped rubbish. _____________________________________ § Wikipedia page about Enid Byton's Famous Five Series of books. § Stone balls on balustraded Clare College Bridge. § The GWR ad campaign was reported by Rail Magazine website on 29 September 2017. § Photo album of McAslan N17 studio.
