Описание: the main mosque for Taraz along Tole Bi Street. The mosque had been built only shortly before we arrived and the space next to it (just to the east) was under construction when I took this photo, slowing turning into a madrassa during the course of our year in Taraz. We heard that the building of the mosque was a bit of a boondoggle, with construction repeatedly stalling as the money donated to build it would disappear into some corrupt pocket. No one could believe it had actually been completed. Aulie-Ata, by the way, is a former name for the city of Taraz. Before it was Taraz it was Zhambyl, before Zhambyl it was Aulie-Ata, and before it was Aulie-Ata it was Taraz. So I guess next the next name change should make it Aulie-Ata again.
