Описание: pompey's pillar is all that's left of the ancient alexandrian serapheum. the best thing about pompey's pillar was finding my way there, talking to strangers, and generally trying to navigate from the catacombs of kom ash-shuqqafa to the pillar. the problem with the pompey's pillar is that's pretty much all it is. a pillar, with a lot of other less impressive run down ruins around it. you can see the pillar from the street, but i paid the admission charge to get in, only to find that there wasn't much more than what you could see from the outside. the pillar site also featured several tourist police stationed there to beg to take your photo in front of the pillar and then to squeeze as much baksheesh as they can out of you. can you tell i didn't have a great experience with this pillar? i'm tellin' ya, the catacombs are much better.
