Описание: More, err, 'transit oriented development' by the Shiguang Road station on the No. 8 line. Note the barred windows near the gate, and, of course, all that laundry. Nearby apartment buildings looked as homely. Shiguang Road is at the end of the line for the No. 8, and I expected a small, laid back group of riders when I returned to the platform. (After all, who worries about getting a good seat at the very first stop? Come on!) Instead I found an unsmiling bunch in businesslike queues at the doors. When the train arrived, they rushed in quickly and grimly. I didn't get a seat. I may not speak Chinese, but don't think I need any to interpret some behaviors. I took this as a bad, bad sign. It was. Within four or five stops, I felt like a fraternity pledge in a 'pack-the-phone-booth' initiation. I could hardly breathe in that packed train. Me thinks subway development is not meted out equitably here.
