Описание: Special Exhibition "Flowers and Butterflies in Joseon Paintings" in National Museum of Korea, Seoul, South Korea. In this painting, a red dragonfly is flying towards some lotus flowers on a pond and a damselfly is perched on a lotus leaf stalk. This combination of dragonflies and lotus flowers can be found in painting manuals illustrating a pond in summer. In particular, the curling of the tips of lotus leaves appears to be a direct reference to painting manuals. In the center of the painting is a strange rock with flowers and a long-headed grasshopper seated on the rock. This painting was created by Sim Sajeong, who is celebrated for his paintings of insects. From his forties onward, Sim's work was greatly influenced by painting manuals. The composition of this painting is similarly drawn from a painting manual.
