Описание: Neo-classical style. Stalinist? Varna was called Stalin in the 1950s. The remains of Cyrillic lettering representing Yuri Gagarin can be made out above the line of windows. Clearly , Yuri was out of favour by 1993. More photos of the Stadium "yuri Gagarin" here. It all looks a bit weedy and overgrown then. Indeed it was demolished in 2008. It was neither the home of either of the Varna football clubs, but Manchester United beat Spartak 2-1 on this ground in 1983 and Nottingham Forest also played here according to this article A brand new stadium, just called the Varna City Stadium at the moment is rising on the site of the Yuri Gagarin, where little more than summer pop festivals took place in latter years.
