Описание: This photo is a mash-up of a shot form January 2016 and a photo from 1923 (from Shorpy). You can view another version of this photo here, which keeps the 2016 portions in color. Blagden Alley used to be home to the stables that kept the President's horses, with several of the carriage houses from the alley's stabling days still in place. With the obsolescence of the stabling industry, workers' housing and warehouses dominated the alley through much of the 20th century. The alley has seen extensive redevelopment beginning around 2012/2013. The buildings along the left appear to have been completely demolished, replaced by Nelson's Mosaics and a paved lot (as seen in this similar shot). The two carriage houses toward the end of the left side have also been demolished, replaced by the modern buildings rising above them. A utility pole has since been shifted several feet to the right; I tried to Photoshop the white-doored garage to remove the bottom half of the pole (though I'll admit I didn't put in the most effort on that part), and figured the top half didn't have much historical consequence. Also most people, so far, haven't even noticed the free-floating pole until I point it out. The people are indeed short. I have a shot of two young women walking at that same position moments before this photo was taken -- themselves reasonably short-statured by modern standards -- and they still had several inches above the tallest women in this photo.
