Est'an ubicadas en el distrito de Livingstone, en la Provincia del Sur, de Zambia y en el distrito de Hwange, en la regi'on de Mashonalandia Occidental, de Zimbabue. Las cataratas tienen una anchura aproximada de 1,7 km y 108 m de alto. Se consideran un espect'aculo extraordinario debido al estrecho y raro abismo en que el agua cae. Tras ellas, el r'io contin'ua fluyendo directamente hacia el este durante unos 200 km, separando muros perpendiculares de basalto de entre 20 y 60 m, de colinas de una altura de entre 200 y 250 m. El r'io fluye r'apidamente por el desfiladero, y su corriente es interrumpida continuamente por los arrecifes. Pasada la garganta hay una sucesi'on de r'apidos que terminan 240 km m'as abajo de las cataratas Victoria. Water entering the Second Gorge makes a sharp right turn and has carved out a deep pool there called the Boiling Pot. Reached via a steep footpath from the Zambian side, it is about 150 m (500 ft) across. Its surface is smooth at low water, but at high water is marked by enormous, slow swirls and heavy turbulence.
