Îïèñàíèå: The St. Alexander Nevsky Chapel, on Andropov Street in central Yaroslavl, is a recent addition to the multitude of Churches in this Golden Ring city. The churches here date back to the 16th century but this one is only a little over a hundred years old. It was built in 1892,in Russian style, from a design by the architect N.I.Pozdeev. The chapel features intricate brickwork and a tent-roofed belfry. The design is typical of the Russian architecture of the late XVII century. A porch which was dismantled at the beginning of the XX century was restored in 1982. It's reported that the chapel was built to commemorate the survival of Tsar Alexander III and his family when their carriage was the only one undamaged in a terrible train wreck at Borki in 1888. The saint honored, Prince Alexander Nevsky was a 13th century military leader who gained legendary status in his defeats of German invaders.
