On the porch of the forerunner's Church in Nizhny Posad, Kuzma Minin addressed an appeal to the people of Nizhny Novgorod during the time of troubles. Stone five-domed Church on a high basement with a hipped bell tower. The wooden Church of the forerunner has been known since the XIV century. The stone building was built by the merchant Gavriil Stepanovich Dranishnikov. In the high basement were arranged shops that were rented out to merchants. In 1881 – 1885, repairs were carried out, during which the bell tower was rebuilt, which distorted the appearance of the ancient building. The Church has been known since the 15th century. The Ivanovskaya tower of the Kremlin is named in her honor. At the beginning of the 17th century, the Church was made of wood. In 1674, the construction of the stone Church began, and it was consecrated in 1683. In 1870, the bell tower was rebuilt, and in 1885, a tent chapel with a gatehouse was added to the Church.
