Sculpture "Gorodovoy" (Policeman) _______ The sculpture depicts a policeman, continuing a series of sculptures dedicated to the inhabitants of the late XIX century. It was installed in 2006 on the city day at the beginning of Bolshaya Pokrovskaya street. The monument shows a uniformed police officer with a pistol and a saber. A "gorodovoy" (policeman) is the lowest police rank in the Russian Empire during the years 1862-1917. Then they were armed with a saber and a revolver, and they also had a police whistle. Gorodovoy were usually recruited from retired soldiers or non-commissioned officers on a voluntary basis.
