Описание: The Oxus Treasure is one of the largest coillections of Achaemenid gold and silver objects. It was found in the 19th century at the site of Talon Kuwad, close to the ver Oxus (modem Amu dar'yaj on the border of Alghanistan and Tajikistan. This region was part of the Achaemenid province of Bactria, It is mentioned as a source of gold in a buliding Inscription of Darius the Great from Susa. The region continues to be explotted for its gold. This collection of gold and silver includes jewellery, model chariots, dedicatory plaques and coins. Some pieces were locally made but others came from elsewhere in the Persian Empire. All date from about the 5th and 4th centuries BC. Many have been chopped ando fragments or their colourful inlays have been removed. This damage was probably done when the pieces were first hoarded, probably as bullion, but some may be after they were discovered in the 19th century en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxus_Treasure
