Описание: Alexander Robertson of Struan (1670-1749) was a clan chief, a Jacobite soldier and poet who had a unique overview of the Jacobite risings, taking part in three. Known as the 'Poet Chief', Robertson was a dangerous Jacobite not only for his lifelong adherence to the cause but also because of his writings which were described as 'poetical squibs and diatribes.' As a youth, he had abandoned his studies at the University of St. Andrews to join Claverhouse's Uprising. Arriving too late to see the fighting at Killiecrankie, he led 500 Clan Donnachaidh onto the field at Sheriffmuir 26 years later, before being captured and imprisoned. He escaped to France and was back in Scotland by 1745. Though an old man, he watched his clan fight at the Jacobite victory at Prestonpans. The triumphant old chief was carried back to his home in the looted carriage of the Government commander, General Cope. Following the defeat of the Jacobite rising in 1746, his tower house at Dunalastair was forfeited. Much of the Robertson land was returned to the clan in 1784.
