Exactly after 10 years of service, leaving vacillations lasting almost four years, he retired, having decided to devote himself entirely to artistic activity. His life path ended in 1852. Thus, as a professional artist, Fedotov worked for only eight years. Fedotov made his debut in front of the Russian public in the middle of this eight-year period: in 1848, his first three paintings appeared at an exhibition at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, among which later became the most popular 'The Major's Marriage Proposal' (www.flickr.com/photos/140907479@N08/48970773037/in/datepo...). The previously unknown artist suddenly became famous. The last work of Pavel Fedotov 'Players' was created at the turn of 1851-1852. It is impossible to recognize the hand that created 'The Major's Marriage Proposal', although these paintings are not shared for four years. There are cases when the beginning and denouement of creativity are in stark contrast (for example, Goya, and in Russian art - Valentin Serov or Alexander Ivanov). But evolution is so swift - a unique phenomenon. In 'Players' - not just a different manner than in 'The Major's Marriage Proposal', but the opposite system of worldview. A change equivalent to moving to another dimension is catastrophic. In view of this metamorphosis, the tragic ending of Fedotov’s biography - death in a mental institution for the mentally ill - is perceived as something predetermined beyond the intense activity of creative intelligence.
